Vocal Music Curriculum
The J.F.K. vocal curriculum is scaffolded to take students from their first days of
kindergarten singing, dancing and playing to their entrance into our more formal school based performances in the fourth and fifth grades.
Throughout each school year, students in grades K-5 have opportunities to sing, dance and respond thoughtfully and creatively to the magic of inspired lyrics and great tunes. Students in grades 1 - 5 learn about symphonic composers such as Franz J. Haydn, Wolfgang A. Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven, as well as modern artists and groups.
Various performances occur throughout the course of the school year. The fifth grade chorus members offer a winter and spring concert. Fourth graders participate in their own spring concert as well. Additionally, students in all grades perform in various assemblies and school wide events.
Following the New York State Arts recommended curriculum, we are especially pleased that our students find their music classes both exciting and rewarding and hope that they will continue to play an integral part in a thriving musical culture.
